Junior Fermentation Engineer

We are currently looking for a junior fermentation engineer, passionate about fermentation and eager to be a part of a fast-growing company innovating in the foodtech sector. You will have a key role within our technical team in a place where you get to be creative and have a large impact on your own work. You will be a key actor in the optimization and up-scaling of the fermentation process, working with the whole process, from bench-top and pilot-scale bioreactors. The position requires not only a structured and analytical way of working, but also quick problem-solving skills. We also believe that you have an entrepreneurial mindset and are willing to learn and develop in your role.

Key Tasks

Your main responsibilities will involve the following:

  • Performing fermentation scale-up experiments at different levels from bench top to pilot-scale bio-reactors.

  • Process optimisation both at manual and automated setting - at various bioreactor scale

  • Preparation of inventories and reports for production operations and quality control analysis

  • Data analysis, reporting and presentations for internal and external funded projects

  • General Lab practise management - Procurement and monitoring of chemical inventories, updates regarding GLP protocols etc


To thrive in this role, we believe that you understand biotechnology and fermentation. We also believe that you are driven and a quick learner! We look for the following:

  • BSc or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, preferably with 1-2 years of industrial experience

  • Knowledge in optimization of microbial cultivation to increase production yields and reduce production costs

  • Basic knowledge in downstream processing of biomass

  • Ability to work independently and with short deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English and basic Swedish communication

  • Great ability to take initiatives and work in an analytical and structured way (preferably with great knowledge in statistics and experimental design)

  • "Out of the box" thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Applicants outside of EU is required to have a valid work/residence permit or VISA

Additional Notes

The role is a full-time position based in Gothenburg. Salary depends on experience. At Mycorena, we offer an exciting work environment in which you have the possibility to grow. The position would include close communication with all main areas, making it a social and multi-disciplinary role.
